How to Purify Camping Water - Best Ways to Purify and Filter Water

Never think that water on the campground is clean and safe to drink. Waters in rivers, lagoons, lakes, and springs may look transparent and crystal clear, but they also comprise bacteria and viruses that can cause diseases and illnesses.

In today's generation, campers or explorers fetch water everywhere without knowing its risks when consumed.

They said that their bodies are already immune to drink camping water. Yet, this is not a good enough reason, for health should be a number one priority at all times.

To ensure the safeness of campground water, there are three ways to purify it:

Boiling Water

How to Purify Camping Water - Best Ways to Purify and Filter Water

Boiling-boiling water is the first method that you can use in purifying camping water. Boling cannot affect the water’s taste.

Boling can be done in small patches that are time-consuming. You have to pour hot water into a container and wait for it to cool down.

Water Filters

This is another way to purify camping water. Water filters eliminate bacteria, viruses, and protozoa. Some filters contain iodine system built-ins.

Filters are easy to use. You have to pump water from a source, from lakes, lagoons, rivers, springs, and put it inside a container.

Chemical Tablets

These are quick, inexpensive, and easy to use. These contain chemicals like iodine to eliminate harmful viruses and bacteria.

However, chemical tablets can only be used for six months once the container is opened, and it can affect the taste of water.

Portable Water Filters

Nowadays, you can't go out of the house without bringing filters, especially when you're going to a camp.

There are handheld filters that are easy to use, very compact, and lightweight. There are cheap filters if you are a very practical person, but you can only use them for a short period.

The purpose of filters is to drain out unwanted chemicals and contaminants to make the water transparent, pure, and crystal clear.

If you're going to travel to developing countries, you might encounter waters that have been soiled by sewage and drainage.

Some filters contain carbon elements to remove herbicides, pesticides, chlorine, and heavy metals. Sometimes, you have to remove the carbon element in the filter if your water source is contaminated by sewage.

Don't forget that all filters will clog eventually. It's a sign that the filter has been used a couple of times.

Don't force water to pump inside the filter because it will lead to a load of microbes and might risk your health.

Some filters can be cleaned or brushed to extend their use and life to people worldwide.

If you can see a pre-filter in your water filter, then that's better. It will enhance the filter's mileage at about 100 gallons for every element disposed of. Be sure to read the manual's instructions for the filter's care and idiosyncrasies carefully.
