The unique Black Berkey elements combine the age-old process of micro-porous filtration coupled with modern state-of-the-art technology and the highest quality materials to bring you one of the most efficient filters available anywhere.
The Black Berkey Filters underwent extensive testing at the state and EPA-accredited laboratories and far exceeded EPA and ANSI/NSF (Std. 53) protocol. The University of Phoenix, Spectrum Labs, and the Department of Toxicology and Environmental Science at Louisiana University have tested the Black Berkey Filters.
This system comes standard with the following:
- Two 9" Black Berkey Elements
- 2 washers
- 2 wing nuts
- 1 priming button
No need for expensive disposable filters. Black Berkey elements are re-cleanable. This advanced technology was developed, refined, and proven through years of diligent, investigative research and testing performed by water specialists, researchers, and engineers.
The flow rate or exposure time through the exclusive Black Berkey elements has been calculated to yield the greatest volume removal of toxic chemicals found in nature and caused by pollution from industry and agriculture.

The Black Berkey elements have been engineered with a fine matrix of microscopic pores to remove over 200 contaminants from freshwater sources.
The Black Berkey Elements are designed to filter approximately 3,000 gallons of water before you need to replace them. They have been tested to exceed NSF/ANSI Standard 53 and proven by third-party laboratories to reduce over 200 contaminants in your water. The elements are also self-sterilizing.
The Black Berkey Elements uses a proprietary formulation of more than six media types to reduce contaminants. Black Berkey® Elements dramatically reduce trihalomethanes, inorganic minerals, heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, VOCs, petroleum products, perfluorinated chemicals, rust, silt, sediment, radiologicals, and more.
Black Berkey Elements are made in the USA and are backed by a two-year pro-rated warranty.
The Black Berkey Element is one of the best gravity-fed water filters.

What is the Black Berkey Water Filter Element?
Berkey® systems equipped with Black Berkey® Elements dramatically reduce trihalomethanes, inorganic minerals, heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, VOCs, petroleum products, perfluorinated chemicals, rust, silt, sediment, radiologicals, and more.
The innovative Berkey elements are so powerful or dominant that they can eradicate food coloring from any water source without eliminating any helpful minerals your physique needs.
How does Black Berkey work, and what are its elements made out of?
The Black Berkey elements apply numerous procedures. These elements are made from a formulation of an additional half a dozen various media types fabricated into an adequate matrix generating millions of micro-fine pores.
Heavy mineral molecules or metal ions are removed using an ion-exchange process wherein metal ions are electrically merged with the media.
Last but not least, the filter elements are planned so that each water molecule can yield a few minutes to pass through the filter components.
The longer the water particles connect with any media, the higher the deduction of the various impurities.
Priming of Black Berkey Elements for Storage
Priming is required because the extremely tiny pores create the filter whether you are using a Royal Berkey, Berkey Light, or any of the other Berkey systems that consume the Black Berkey element.
These components need force when water enters through its filter to clear the air ensnared inside the micro-fine pores during its process.
Start by opening your Black Berkey box and confirming that each component has a wing nut and elastic washer attached to it. Inside the box, a tan elastic washer with a priming button can also be seen; it is thicker than the component washer with a minor center hole.
Is Black Berkey Recyclable?
It is not recommended that you recycle Black Berkey Elements. Its shells are made of Polypropylene, which is Recycle Code 5.
Uses of Polypropylene include yogurt containers, catsup bottles, medicine bottles, and margarine tubs.
To recycle, one would have to cut the component open and eliminate the material before recycling the malleable shell. Furthermore, these elements do not know what impurities are in the media after use.
Berkey systems extract harmful elements but retain beneficial minerals for our health. They remove lead, iron oxide, and mercury but ensure that you still get the minerals your body needs from water, unlike Reverse Osmosis Water Filters. While a Reverse Osmosis Water Filter eliminates harmful chemicals from the contaminated water, it also strips off healthy minerals. As this cycle continues, negative effects on our bodies start to develop.
Healthy Minerals Stay, Harmful Ones Removed
Berkey was designed to eliminate only the dangerous chemicals from the water. Its main goal is to purposely retain healthy minerals. Filtered water from Berkey ensures that you will be free from body demineralization.
The Berkey water filter was made to remove mercury and lead from contaminated water. It purposefully removes toxic chemicals and metals yet retains natural nutritional elements in clean water.
Many of the world's population needs access to clean water. They do not lack minerals from food and are nutritionally depleted because of contaminated water.
You can avoid malnutrition in your own home by using safe and trusted filtering systems. We can use all our water sources, but we can only utilize a safe filtration system.
