Travel Berkey® Water Filter – 1.5 Gal Gravity-Fed Filtration System
Travel Berkey® Water Filter System – Compact Stainless Steel Gravity-Fed Filtration
The Travel Berkey® Water Filter System is the smallest stainless-steel Berkey® system, designed for compact, everyday use at home and while traveling. Its 1.5-gallon capacity and narrow footprint make it a practical choice for apartments, RVs, cabins, smaller kitchens, and other spaces where counter room is limited.
Despite its compact size, the Travel Berkey® uses the same gravity-fed design found in larger stainless steel Berkey® systems. No electricity, plumbing, water pressure, or permanent installation is required.
Constructed from highly polished AISI 304 stainless steel, the Travel Berkey® is durable, easy to move, and designed for long-term everyday use.
The current configuration includes 2 Black Berkey® Elements, which is also the maximum number of primary elements the Travel Berkey® can accommodate.
*Due to state regulations, this product is not available for sale in California or Iowa.
Small Footprint. Full Berkey® Functionality.
With a 1.5-gallon capacity, the Travel Berkey® is designed for approximately 1–3 people for normal everyday use. Its 7.5-inch diameter helps conserve counter space, while the upper chamber nests inside the lower chamber for more compact storage and transport.

How the Travel Berkey® Works
The Travel Berkey® uses gravity to move water from the upper chamber through the installed primary filter elements. Filtered water collects in the lower chamber and is dispensed through the spigot.
Included Black Berkey® Elements
The current Travel Berkey® configuration includes 2 Black Berkey® Elements.
Independent Black Berkey® laboratory documentation reports reduction performance for a range of drinking-water substances, including selected heavy metals, chlorine-related compounds, VOCs, pharmaceuticals, petroleum-related compounds, particulates, and other substances under the documented test conditions.
Because Black Berkey® Elements are not designed as a reverse-osmosis or demineralization system, ordinary dissolved minerals such as calcium and magnesium generally remain in the water.
A pair of Black Berkey® Elements has a manufacturer-recommended replacement interval of up to approximately 6,000 gallons under stated conditions. Actual service life may be shorter depending on source water quality and use.

Optional PF-2™ Fluoride & Arsenic Reduction Elements
The Travel Berkey® can accommodate up to 2 optional PF-2™ Fluoride & Arsenic Reduction Elements when used with compatible primary filter elements. Install one PF-2 for each compatible primary element.
Flow Rate & Capacity
| Capacity | 1.5 gallons (approximately 5.7 liters) |
|---|---|
| Included primary elements | 2 Black Berkey® Elements |
| Maximum compatible primary elements | 2 |
| Maximum PF-2™ Elements | 2 |

Travel Berkey® vs. Big Berkey®
The Travel and Big Berkey® are both compact stainless steel systems, but they serve somewhat different needs. The Travel prioritizes the smallest footprint and portability, while the Big offers more stored water and greater expansion capacity.

Maintenance & Filter Replacement
- Prime filter elements according to the current instructions before first use.
- Use cold or room-temperature water only.
- Do not use salt water.
- Clean the stainless steel chambers periodically with mild dish soap and water.
- During their useful service life, compatible cleanable elements may be cleaned according to their current care instructions if flow slows.
- Cleaning may help restore flow, but it does not reset the manufacturer's gallon guidance or make an element indefinitely reusable.
- Replace elements according to the applicable gallon guidance, source-water conditions, and current manufacturer instructions.
The stainless steel Berkey® chambers are assembled in the USA from U.S. and imported parts. Black Berkey® Elements are made and assembled in the USA.
Assembly Verification: Red Food Coloring Test
The Red Food Coloring Test is used to help verify that Black Berkey® Elements and blocking points are properly installed and sealed.
- Remove any PF-2™ Elements before performing the test.
- With the Black Berkey® Elements properly installed, add appropriate artificial red food coloring to the water in the upper chamber at a rate of up to 1/8 teaspoon (approximately 10 drops) per gallon of water.
- Allow the water to filter into the lower chamber.
- If the filtered water remains clear, the installed elements and seals have passed the assembly-verification test.
- If pink or red coloring appears in the lower chamber, inspect the installation, washers, wing nuts, and unused openings, correct any issue, and repeat the test.
