Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition Filters - Black Berkey Element Alternative
Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Filter Elements are replacement filtration elements designed for Berkey® gravity-fed water filter systems and most similar gravity water filtration systems. Officially endorsed by New Millennium Concepts, Ltd., these elements are engineered for everyday municipal drinking water filtration and use a dense, micro-porous media formulation featuring premium CTC-60 coconut shell activated carbon.
As water moves through the filter by gravity, millions of microscopic pores and extended media contact time help reduce a broad range of common contaminants while improving the taste, odor, and clarity of drinking water. Independent laboratory testing has evaluated the filters for their ability to reduce chlorine, chloramines, PFAS compounds, VOCs, pharmaceuticals, heavy metals, disinfection byproducts, and many other contaminants commonly discussed in municipal water quality reports.
Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Filter Elements are certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 42 for aesthetic effects, including reduction of chlorine, chloramines, and particulates that affect taste and odor. They are also certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN Standard 372 for lead-free material compliance for components that come into contact with drinking water.

NSF/ANSI Certification Details
NSF/ANSI Standard 42: Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Filter Elements are certified to reduce non-health-related contaminants, also known as aesthetic impurities. This includes chlorine, chloramines, and particulates that may affect taste and odor.
NSF/ANSI/CAN Standard 372: These filter elements are also certified to this standard. This standard addresses lead-free material compliance for drinking water system components and is consistent with U.S. Safe Drinking Water Act lead-free plumbing requirements and applicable U.S. state requirements.
Important note: NSF/ANSI Standard 42 is an aesthetic-effects standard. NSF/ANSI/CAN Standard 372 is a lead-content/materials standard. These certifications should not be interpreted as certification for the reduction of every contaminant listed in third-party laboratory reports.
How Phoenix Gravity Filters Work
Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Filter Elements contain a dense matrix of millions of microscopic pores that create a winding filtration path as water passes through the media. This process helps reduce sediment, silt, rust, cloudiness, particulates, and other common impurities that can affect the appearance and quality of drinking water.
The premium activated coconut shell carbon provides extensive adsorption capacity for many organic compounds. Extended contact time created by gravity-fed filtration allows water to remain in contact with the media longer, supporting the effective reduction of chlorine, chloramines, PFAS compounds, VOCs, pharmaceuticals, disinfection byproducts, and various heavy metals, as evaluated in independent laboratory testing.
Because the system is gravity-fed, no electricity, plumbing, or water pressure is required. Flow rate may vary depending on system size, water level in the upper chamber, filter condition, and water quality.

Compatible Systems
Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Filter Elements are designed to fit all Berkey® gravity-fed water filter systems, including:
- Go Berkey® Kit
- Travel Berkey®
- Big Berkey®
- Royal Berkey®
- Imperial Berkey®
- Crown Berkey™
- Berkey Light®
They also fit most other brands of gravity-fed water filter systems.
Compatible Filters and Accessories
- Berkey PF-2® Fluoride and Arsenic Reduction Elements
- Black Berkey Primer™
- Black Berkey® Elements may be used in the same system; however, overall performance expectations should be based on the Phoenix Gravity elements when both types are mixed.
Fluoride and PF-2 Compatibility
Laboratory testing indicates that Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Filter Elements can initially reduce fluoride levels, with some testing showing reductions of up to 75.5%. Because activated carbon media typically loses fluoride reduction capability more quickly than dedicated fluoride media, Berkey PF-2® Fluoride and Arsenic Reduction Elements are recommended for customers seeking longer-term fluoride and arsenic reduction performance.
