Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition Filters - Black Berkey Element Alternative
Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Filter Elements are replacement gravity filter elements designed for Berkey® gravity-fed water systems and most similar gravity water filter systems. They are offered in lieu of Black Berkey® Elements and are officially endorsed by New Millennium Concepts, Ltd.
Each set includes two filter elements made with premium CTC-60 coconut shell activated carbon. The filters are designed for everyday drinking water filtration, helping improve taste, odor, and clarity while addressing a broad range of typical contaminants found in municipal drinking water supplies.
The Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Filter Elements are certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 42 for aesthetic effects, including reduction of chlorine, chloramines, and particulates that can affect taste and odor. They are also certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN Standard 372 for lead-free material compliance for products that come into contact with drinking water.
Independent third-party laboratory testing has also evaluated these filters for reduction of additional typical contaminants, including PFAS compounds, VOCs, SOCs, heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, disinfection byproducts, petroleum-related compounds, and other substances commonly discussed in municipal water quality reports.
*Due to state regulations, this product is not available for sale to residents of California or Iowa.

NSF/ANSI Certification Details
NSF/ANSI Standard 42: Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Filter Elements are certified to reduce non-health-related contaminants, also known as aesthetic impurities. This includes chlorine, chloramines, and particulates that may affect taste and odor.
NSF/ANSI/CAN Standard 372: These filter elements are also certified to this standard. This standard addresses lead-free material compliance for drinking water system components and is consistent with U.S. Safe Drinking Water Act lead-free plumbing requirements and applicable U.S. state requirements.
Important note: NSF/ANSI Standard 42 is an aesthetic-effects standard. NSF/ANSI/CAN Standard 372 is a lead-content/materials standard. These certifications should not be interpreted as certification for the reduction of every contaminant listed in third-party laboratory reports.
How Phoenix Gravity Filters Work
Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Filter Elements use a dense, micro-porous carbon block structure. As water moves through the filter by gravity, the water passes through millions of microscopic pores and a winding internal path. This helps reduce concerns about sediment, silt, rust, cloudiness, taste, and odor.
The activated coconut shell carbon also provides adsorption capacity for many organic compounds. Independent testing has evaluated the filters for the reduction of a broad range of typical contaminants, including PFAS compounds, VOCs, SOCs, pharmaceuticals, disinfection byproducts, petroleum-related compounds, and certain metals.
Because the system is gravity-fed, no electricity, plumbing, or water pressure is required. Flow rate may vary depending on system size, water level in the upper chamber, filter condition, and water quality.

They also fit most other brands of gravity-fed water filter systems.
Compatible Filters and Accessories
- Berkey PF-2® Fluoride and Arsenic Reduction Elements
- Black Berkey Primer™
- Black Berkey® Elements may be used in the same system; however, overall performance expectations should be based on the Phoenix Gravity elements when both types are mixed.
What’s Included
- Two Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Filter Elements
- PrimeEasy™ Universal Primer
- Two vials of red food coloring for system testing
- Two sealing washers are attached to the filter stems
- Two wing nuts attached to filter stems
- Product instructions
The included PrimeEasy™ Universal Primer is designed to help with first-time priming by creating a sealed, leak-resistant connection with many faucet heads and spigots. Priming helps flush dust from the filters and displace air from the filter pores, allowing water to flow properly.

Fluoride and PF-2 Compatibility
Laboratory testing indicates that Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Filter Elements can initially reduce fluoride levels. Because fluoride reduction performance in carbon-based media can decline over time, Berkey PF-2® Fluoride and Arsenic Reduction Elements may be used with Phoenix Gravity filters for customers seeking additional fluoride and arsenic reduction support.

Use and Maintenance
Priming
Prime the filters before first use or after a long period of storage. Priming flushes process dust and displaces air from the internal pores, allowing the filters to flow properly.
Cleaning
If the flow slows or visible buildup appears on the outside of the filters, remove the elements from the upper chamber and gently scrub them under cold running water with a stiff-bristled brush or Scotch-Brite® pad. Do not use soap or cleaning agents. Re-prime before reinstalling.
Storage
Unused filters can be stored long-term in a clean, dry place. Used filters should be fully dried before long-term storage. Once dry, store them in a sealed plastic bag to help prevent odor absorption. Re-clean and re-prime before returning them to use.
Softened Water
Use with softened water is not recommended. Mineral salts introduced by salt-based water softeners may shorten filter life and reduce performance. Use with softened water may also void the warranty.
Water With Microbiological Safety Concerns
Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Filter Elements are not marketed with microbiological reduction claims. If water is questionable or suspected of having microbiological safety concerns, follow guidance from appropriate public health authorities before filtering for taste, odor, and non-biological contaminant concerns.
